In today’s video, I want to take you through the process of grinding a large tree stump, which was an 8-foot willow stump, Fordham, near Colchester, Essex. I have two websites, Essex Tree Stump Grinding and Suffolk Tree Stump Grinding. I have two websites due to the fact that I live on the Essex-Suffolk border, so I cover both counties. I’m here to grind any tree stump you need or require. I’m here to help or to get to the root of the problem! You can see more tree stump grinding in the Colchester area here.
So, let’s have a look at this tree stump. This was a particularly large willow tree stump, approximately 8 feet wide one way, not so wide the other way, but still quite wide. It actually had an iron bar going through it, so we couldn’t cut the tree stump down low, or the tree surgeon couldn’t cut the tree stump down low. We had to leave it high, which makes for a lot more grinding. It’s difficult to a tree stump like that right down to the ground due to its size and position and plus the fact that there was a large piece of angle iron embedded in the tree stump.
Iron Bar
Here, you can see I literally just started grinding. I will show a video at the end. You can see I found this iron bar going through the tree, which isn’t ideal. Before I wrecked my teeth, I ground a bit more to the other side of the tree stump and then did a bit more around the piece of steel. You can see where the iron bar is, and there’s a closer-up picture here. Fortunately, with an axe and grinding a bit more around the bar, we were able to pull the metal stake out and then grind normally. Unfortunately, any large lumps of metal will quickly wreck the teeth. You can see here I’ve taken chunks out of the iron bar, which isn’t clever, as it wrecks a new set of teeth.
Here, I am getting near to finishing, there’s still more under all the chippings, but you can see a huge clump of shavings climbing up the top of the fence. You wouldn’t normally get that many shavings, but because the stump was extra tall, there’s a larger amount of chippings.
Here, we have another picture nearly finished, and then finally, it was dusk when I finished. You can actually see the exhaust glowing in the dark. It’s amazing how hot the exhaust pipe becomes after a bit of work. In a moment, I’ll play you the video, and you’ll see the machine grinding. It’s only short.
