Recently I was tree stump grinding at Ugley, near Saffron Walden, Essex. The job was slightly different due to the fact that the tree stumps were on a bank, which made grinding slightly more awkward. However, the bank was not overly steep, so I was able to grind the tree stumps without too much difficulty.
The two largest problems when grinding on a bank are making sure that the machine is stable so that it cannot tip over. In other words, approach the bank at the right angle, so that there is no danger of the stump grinder going over sideways. The other issue is the fact that when a stump grinder is being used on a gradient, you can lose the depth of the grind. If you’re grinding downhill, then you can potentially grind deeper, but it’s not always as simple as that when you are grinding a tree stump on a bank. Fortunately, use a Predator radio remote stump grinder, which is on tracks, so it makes the job much easier than using a traditional pedestrian type stump grinder.

The trees were removed as they were in an awkward place to maintain and the client was planning to build a brick wall and then plant a laurel hedge in front of the property. This would not only act as a green screen but would also act as a sound barrier. Although the property was in a very idyllic place, unfortunately, it is not too far from the M11, so there is the constant sound of traffic. The laurel hedge will help to soften some of the noise from the passing traffic.
