Many people often ask the question what are the benefits of using a tree stump removal company? Maybe I am biased, as my business carries out tree stump removals, but I will try and explain the benefits here.
The photograph to the left shows a tree stump that had been attempted to be dug out with a mechanical digger. The customer was stumped by their tree stump!
Your Efforts Were In Vain!
I quite frequently go to peoples garden only to find that they have attempted to remove a tree stump and actually got nowhere, but it is also obvious that they have worked the whole weekend extremely hard, only to find that their efforts were in vain.
It Is Possible To Remove A Tree Stump By Hand?
Now it is possible to remove a tree stump by hand, in fact, I removed a pyracantha stump in a raised border where it was not possible to get my stump grinder to this pyracantha tree stump. After three hours and a lot of effort I did manage to remove this tree stump, I had also left the stem high, so as to act as a lever well removing the tree stump. The pyracantha stump was multi-stemmed and measured about 12 inches (30 cm) in diameter, this size of tree stump is possible to remove by hand, however, I would probably walk away from removing anything much larger than 12 inches (30 cm) diameter by hand.
My Price Is Generally Lower
Potential customers will often come to me for a quote for removing tree stumps, which I normally give immediately over the phone. Often they will say to me that they have had a quote for hiring a tree stump grinder and my price is generally lower than the cost of hiring and doing it yourself, especially when time is taken into account.
Minimal Effort
Fortunately, I use a tracked radio remote tree stump grinder (you can see the tree stump grinder working here) which requires minimal effort from the operator, although there is some manual work required for the clearing up process etc! However, normally a stump grinder that is hired from your local hire shop will be a two-wheeled manual machine, which actually does require a lot of physical effort and depending on the size of the machine, it can take a considerable time to grind out a tree stump. I know this for a fact as I used to own a pedestrian stump grinder! You can see my blog post on how long does it take to grind out a tree stump here.
Debris Guard
Something else to take into consideration is that when you remove a tree stump the stump grinder does tend to make things fly rather, for example, stones and small pieces of wood can fly, so, make sure you have the area guarded up if you are near windows, cars, people or in a public area. The hire shops probably can supply you with a debris guard which will help to keep the flying objects contained. I also sometimes use a windbreak which people use for camping or while on the beach, this actually works quite effectively providing your windbreak is tall enough.
